Wishcasting Wednesday: What Do You Wish To Celebrate?

Every Wednesday, the incredibly talented Jamie Ridler, of Jamie Ridler Studios, posts a Wishcasting prompt.

I’ve made a place, a beautiful page on my blog, to cradle my wishes and dreams.

Some weeks I answer her prompt, and some weeks I don’t quite get to it.  On the days when I do make time to honor my wishes and dreams, they’ll be here, on the Wishcasting Wednesday page of my blog.

So here’s to my Wishcast for December 5,  2012 ~

Wishcasting Wednesday: What Do You Wish To Celebrate?

This is a picture of my mother ~ we got up early and drove to the edge of Taos to watch the sun come up.  We were told that the light in Taos is so magnificent because it is at the same latitude as the ‘South of France’.  I believe it.  The sky in Taos is amazing.  The week we spent together in Toas was a gift.  Both of us seeking rest and healing.  Days I will cherish for the rest of my life.

That was five years ago.  Our journeys have taken curious turns since then, and my love for mom grows stronger every day.

With gratitude I wish to celebrate amazing sunrises and sunsets, even as I write this in the pink of dawn this morning.

I wish to celebrate beginnings and endings, and the amazing people who have become my circle over the past 5 years. I’ve experienced the beauty of learning from many gifted, creative people, as well as the experience of creating a precious tribe of my own … circles I honor and respect.

Thank you for being with me.  Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me, and for making this journey a boat load of fun!

Those of you who have followed teenytinypieces since it began in 2009 know that I could easily replace my middle name with the word “change” … because that’s what it has been about.  This blog, this journey, this time in my life.

So, I continue to change, to find out what makes me tick.  I also embrace changes within my family.  Amazing opportunities for those I hold most dear, and I am excited for what the future holds for them … for what tribe they will create.

Gifts abound, dearest ones ~ open your eyes and watch for them. The questions you ask, most certainly have answers.  The wishes you make, swirl into the universe with wild abandon and come back to you through the people you meet, the places you venture, the words you write, the dreams that linger deep within your spirit.  Gifts abound.

I am grateful, and I wish to celebrate this day.

When my husband and I were flying out of Las Vegas (after a life-changing visit to canyon country in 2006) I accidentally left a bottle of water in my backpack.  We were pulled aside to security and our bags were searched.  The burly security guard pulled the bottle out of the bag, gave us a look to let us know that we had broken the rules.

Then the guard did something so beautiful ~ he pulled a small book from my backpack, one that we’d been reading each morning on our trip.  He held it up in the air.  I thought I’d done something else wrong.

His powerful voice spoke words that changed my life, changed our lives.  He spoke with gentle kindness as he recited the first page of the book from memory:

Look to this day, for it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course lie all the realities and verities of existence.
The bliss of growth, the splendor of action, the glory of power.
Yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision.
But today – well lived – makes every yesterday
a dream of happiness,
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day.
~ Sanskrit proverb ~

~

His stern look turned to a smile.  I wanted to hug him, like a long-lost friend … this gift, this love he shared with us, at the airport, in Vegas.

We just never know ~

Look well, therefore, to this day ~ notice, and celebrate, every gift that comes your way.

With biggest love until next time ~

I wrote the following about the moment: Mom

    Taos Sunrise
    -Joy S. Barefoot, 2007

    First morning light
    unfolds in soft rays
    across a pastel sky
    as hues spread in search
    of the day’s pleasure.
    Softly and gently
    a mother rises,
    quietly preparing the way
    before her house awakens,
    and Sol
    comes boldly
    from his eastern bed,
    casting his golden scepter
    from north to south
    while he marches,
    undisturbed,
    to evening’s bed.

    • Thank you for sharing this, Mom ~ I love this poem, and the picture of you, with the morning crown behind you ~ <3
