Rain on my Soul

noreaction

Answer to prayers I wasn’t even aware I needed to pray.

My days are full and busy.  There is more work than I can do in a day, and for this I am incredibly grateful.  I make lists, and then lists about my lists.

I am nestled in the canopy of old oaks, dogwoods, and a few pine trees, house-sitting for a friend. After the big energy of the full moon last night, I woke this morning to the sound of rain in the treetops.

Thank you, I uttered, what a relief … rain to replenish the earth. To replenish my body, mind, and spirit.

I stepped outside and shuffled down the long driveway, being careful not to slip. The rhythm of the raindrops intensified as they splashed on the surface of the wide oak leaves.  Loud, delightful, cleansing.

Every few steps I stopped, taking in the newness in the air, lifting my face to the sky.  Welcoming the raindrops on my skin.

At the bottom of the hill, the woody forest gave way to a grassy clearing.  Splashing water softened into birdsong in the meadow.  A fresh breath, and renewal for the day.

With gratitude,
