Finding A Spot of Shade

Umbrella1

From heat, from stress, from rain, from everyday discomforts … one of life’s little gifts is an umbrella.

The size, shape, and color are of no importance, they simply offer respite amidst our difficulties.

Yesterday we sat in a hot circle at mom and dad’s house, drinking hot tea and coffee (why?), and chatting about any number of things.  The shade of their new umbrella kept us together, at-least for a time.  The hot bright sun was tolerable, and some of the people I most love were right beside me.

This morning an addled young woman at the coffee shop wanted to sit outside, but it was, really hot!!  I’d endured it about as long as I could when she tiptoed up, looking for a spot of shade, and finally settled beside a closed umbrella.  I suggested she might try opening it.  She didn’t think she’d be able to.  I offered to find someone to help her, and she delightfully said, yes, please ~ it kinda’ made my day… a good reminder of the fellowship found under and around an umbrella.

So when I got home from the coffee shop, I was reminded that it’s time for our old umbrella to be shed of spiders, and take it’s place.  Annie helped … and I was happy, washing it off and standing it up ~ remembering how Frank and I found the whole set-up on Craigslist some years ago for seventy-five bucks, and somehow (??) crammed the whole thing into and on top of my old Isuzu Rodeo!! Where there’s a will there’s a way, right?

Whether you find your umbrella on a sunny patio, under a stormy sky, on a sandy beach, or even in a pretty little glass ~ enjoy the fellowship.  Take a moment to appreciate life’s gifts, and the people you’ll find only an arms length away … under an umbrella.

Wishing you peace and love today.
Take special good care ~
