The One Thing That’s Constant … Change

A year ago today I posted an article on Finding the Courage to Change. That was the day that my hubby and I took a long ride in the country on a snowy New Year’s Day, and then went to the art store to buy our first real collection of acrylic paints. At the time I honestly had no idea what changes that lay ahead.

2010 has been a year of tremendous change, and somehow tremendous standing still. I’ve been in the center of a whirlwind of experiences, lessons, and challenges. I’ve emerged stronger, smarter, and ready for whatever is next.

Today, one year after we bought those delicious paints in the picture above, we drove home from Asheville, where we restocked our booth of acrylic abstracts at Kress Emporium.  We also introduced a set of photography greeting cards, and I proudly hung my new series of miniature paintings. One year … still finding the courage to change.

My painting experience is only a tiny facet. Much has happened … and I’ve experienced the full range of emotions from thrills to utter disappointment.

My experiences in 2010 validate my belief that change is, and will be, part of this life. Just as strongly as I crave stability and smooth sailing, I crave change.

Teeny Tiny Pieces has been a central part of my journey for 2010, and will continue to be. This year I’ve reconnected with old friends, and met amazing new friends online. I’ve fallen in love with Wishcasting Wednesday and the loving warmth I experience each week from visiting fellow Wishcasters. I’ve worked toward telling my story on Teeny Tiny Pieces … there’s much more to tell, but I suppose the story is told if and when the time is right. I initiated Recovery Seeds on December 1st, and love writing short recovery posts.

I’m also planning to complete my print book,  to participate in Leah’s Creative Everyday Challenge, even if I don’t post every day, and I just read this afternoon about Ken’s Thirty Dirty Pages Project, which sounds like fun.  Somewhere along the line I’d love to start my own Happiness Project.  I have a family, am a full time education consultant, and will be completing my Healing Touch training and apprenticeship in order to become a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner (big yay on that one!)

There just isn’t enough time, or space, or sanity for me to maintain each of these projects to the extent that I’d love to, so I’ll toss them all into the sifter and see how they fall out. Perhaps daily posts will become weekly. Perhaps a project that has been simmering on the back burner will shift to the front.

Monitor and adjust. Change is constant, and I give myself permission to do what works for me.

Thank you, always, for reading my blog.  You are each so precious to me.

I wish you a happy and healthy 2011. Keep your chin up, do something creative whenever you have a chance, and take special good care,

Love,

  1. Hi Jane,

It’s lovely to see your appearance on my blog roll again, sounds like you are all refreshed for the new year, change and all!

Like yourself, I welcome change and the thrill of the new, so I’m looking forward to the year’s unfolding.

Looks like you are going to be a very busy lady, so I’m ever so happy to have a little ‘teeny tiny’ piece of you!

Happy New Year to you and your family,

    Love Sue

    • Hi Sue, and Happy New Year!

I’ve got to find out about that blogroll that you’ve got … very cool! Mine has links, but doesn’t update to recent posts! Maybe I’ll add “become more tech savvy” to my 2011 list of things to do. 🙂

Well, as I said, I have alot on my plate, from many different directions, and sometimes when I’m diving into the garden salad, the lasagna gets shoved off the other side and lands flat in the floor! Somehow, I’ll figure out how to fit things in, and to grow what needs growing.

The teacher in me always says “monitor and adjust” …

Have a beautiful week! What’s your next project? Will miss your calendar, but I’m sure you’ll be sharing more spectacular goodies with us soon!

      Love,
      Jane

    • Hi Angela,

Been thinking about you so much! I’ve figured out a few of the things we talked about last week! When I catch my breath, I’ll drop you a line.

Hope I didn’t sound like I was boasting in this post … I suppose just hoping to let readers know that I truly want to do it all, but will have to make some adjustments.

Have a great 2011! You deserve the best!
      Big hugs to you!

  2. One of the treasures I found this year, through The Daily Brainstorm, was your blog. I love this: “There just isn’t enough time, or space, or sanity for me to maintain each of these projects to the extent that I’d love to, so I’ll toss them all into the sifter and see how they fall out.” That’s so well said!

I made a resolution this year to just honor the truth of the ME in “I am,” and seeing how things fall out of the sifter is part of that. I’ll keep that image in mind. Thanks! 🙂

    • Wow, that’s such a super nice thing to say! Thanks, Ande!

It’s great to see you again, and Ducky’s smiling face! I tried to watch a video on your site, but my laptop doesn’t run fast-enough, I guess. Will try it at work.

Well, let’s just keep on sifting, and see what beautiful things emerge. As I watch the goodness float down, I’ll hold my most cherished desires and see if they come my way.

      Much goodness to you Ande!

  3. Jane thank you for your words of wisdom “Monitor and adjust. Change is constant, and I give myself permission to do what works for me.”

I sometimes feel I have too many things I love and want to do and some get the time they need and others … shift around. I like the idea of having permission to “monitor and adjust.”

may 2011 give you great joy and fulfillment!

    • Yes ~ too many things I love, too. Choosing which to give time and attention to is difficult sometimes, so I need to remind myself that they’re all good and worthy, some are just more present … some will come to fruition before others, and that’s ok.

So great to see you, Aileen ~ Have a beautiful 2011!!

      Warmest hugs!

    • Thanks, Tess ~
I like to learn new things … just have to find a good balance between doing enough and doing too much. Sometimes I’m better at it than others, but life’s a dance, right? 🙂

Don’t change too much too fast. I kind of like you just the way you are.

    • Awww, Dad … just doing my best to keep my head above water as I learn whatever’s next. Gotta’ keep learning all I can so that I can take good care of your shoulder and wrist, right?
      🙂

  5. Wow! You have so much on the go and yet you’re able to write such beautiful posts for this blog! Well done.
